Increase Profits While Making Cotton Candy

How to Increase your Profits while making Cotton Candy! Making Cotton Candy is very easy with cotton candy machines. Many folks find it intimidating the first time they try to use a floss machine. There are just a few simple rules to follow.
  1. Fill the spinner head of the cotton candy machine while it is turned off.
  2. Wear eye protection.

  3. There is no wrong way to make cotton candy; however, some methods are more profitable than others.

  4. Below are the steps to putting the least amount of sugar on a cone while presenting it as a large value. Remember, cotton candy is fun and profitable. Don’t give away profits.

  5. Most people think the correct way to make cotton candy in a cotton candy machine is to wind it on to the floss cones as the sugar is coming out of the machine. This method does work but you end up putting far more sugar on the cone. Follow the step listed below and increase your profits.

Pick a cotton candy cone; if it sticks in the stack of cones, twist it off the stack. Hold an inch or two of the pointed end of the cone between two fingers and a thumb. With a light flicking action, roll cone in the web of sugar floss building up in the pan. Lift the cone up with the ring of floss attached and rotate the cone to wrap the floss. DO NOT roll floss while the cone is inside the pan. This will pack the floss too tightly.

If the floss fails to stick to the cone, pass the cone near the spinner head to pick up a “starter” of melted sugar. Lift the cone out of the pan and wrap the floss with a “figure eight” movement of the hand. This leaves giant pockets and makes the final product appear larger. Make sure room humidity is not too high, or product will be “heavy”.
  • DO NOT put hands or objects in rotating spinner head.

  • Do not fill spinner head with sugar while it is rotating.

  • Operator should wear eye protection.

  • Do not put hands near rotating spinner head.

  • Use floss cone to collect cotton candy.

How to Set a Slush Puppie Machine Timer

What does a Slush Machine Timer do?
The timer in a Slush Puppie Machine is very similar to a timer used to turn lights on or off in your home. Its function is to turn the compressor off, Defrost Time, for a period of time during the day or night so the product in the machine can melt down to a liquid state. It is important for your slush product to melt down to a liquid state everyday to ensure product quality. If your product doesn’t return to liquid state each day the ice crystals will get larger and larger resulting in the formation of ice “Beebe’s”. Most slush machines need 8 hours of uninterrupted defrost time each day.

How to set a timer?

Setting a Slush Puppie Machine timer is very easy. The first step is to determine when you want the machine to go into “Defrost”, or off position. Most locations have this happen in the late evening and early morning hours. For example, 11pm to 7am. The timer looks very much like a clock with pins that depending on the position allow the compressor to turn on or not. The pins can be pointed toward the center, “in” of the timer or toward the outside, “out” of the timer.
How to remember: “In” has two letters = ON; “Out” has three letters = OFF

The timer in the picture above is set to come on at 7am and go off at 11pm. The white triangle located just above the “3” should be pointed toward the current time.Remember, only turn the timer in a clockwise direction. A timer that doesn’t spin smoothly is an indication that it needs to be replaced. At Allen's we offer replacement slush puppie timers, P.N. 41809474.

How Do I Mix Slush Puppie Base?

We get this question all the time - "How do I mix my slush puppie base in order to get the best tasting slushie for my customers?" It's actually quite simple if you follow a few basic steps. It is important though to be accurate with your measurements for the best taste.

How to Mix Slush Puppie Base?
  1. Read label on jug to determine if the mix ratio is 5 to 1 , or, 4 to 1.
  2. 5 to 1 ratio means you will be mixing 5 parts water to 1 part Syrup.
  3. We do this by using an empty Slush Puppie Syrup Jug. Every jug has marking on them to help in mixing product correctly.
  4. Fill empty mixing jug to the 5 to 1 line, making sure the jug is level and you have the correct amount in the jug.
  5. Fill the jug with cold water up to the water line approximately 2 inches from the top. Do not fill the jug to the top, this will make the product to thin and the slush machine will over freeze.
  6. Put lid on the jug and mix aggressively, pour into slush machine. Repeat until machine is full.

Why is accuracy of mixing product important?

Slush machines freeze product by cooling the inside of freezing chamber and scraper blades shaving the ice off the inside evaporator wall. If the product is mixed too thin, meaning the mixture has too much water in it, the machine will over freeze. The product will appear whiter than normal in color and be very thick. If it is too thin, the machine can freeze up and damage can occur to drive motors and gears. It is very important to mix your product correctly. Mixing product too rich, meaning too much syrup, will result in the product being unable to freeze because the sugar ratio is too high. Learn more about slush puppie equipment and supplies.
